History

For over 50 years, Westminster Presbyterian Church has sought to be faithful to the Great Commission, which Jesus shared with his disciples. Through evangelism, mission, and worship, the congregation of WPC has continued to seek to serve the Lord with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love. And through it all, God has been faithful.  
It is hard to imagine that since February 16, 1948, when WPC was formed with 102 charter members, 4671 names have appeared on our rolls. Indeed, what was begun in the Plaza Theater on 26th and Boston over 50 years ago has been blessed by God!
  

WPC is grateful for the leadership over the years of its ministers. For founding pastor, David Zacharias, who knocked on so many doors for some 11 years, when 34th Street was the last paved road South before you reached cotton fields. For Bill Smith, who was key in the planning and building of our present Sanctuary (April 9, 1967) and the organ during his seven years. For Sam Laine, here for 17 years, whose commitment to Mission beyond ourselves and faithful pastoring did so much for so many. For John Powell, who through his eight years of ministry brought an atmosphere of renewal and increased commitment to discipleship and biblical equipping.
  For Paul Cunningham, here for 7 years of ministry, whose leadership was used to expand the physical plant of Westminster and the vision for mission.  We also remember our Associate Pastors: Eugene Strickland, Grandland Groves, David Duncan, John Roper, Curtis Miller, Jim Jenson, Keith Sackett, Michael Harbert, Albert L. Gillin,  Dan Birchfield, and Matt Mitchell.  During times of transition, our Interim Pastors have been: Duke Kilgore, Roy Zeufeldt, and Paul Soderquist; and Parish Associate, Pamela B. Powell.
WPC continues to be a loving, caring, and growing family, and the next chapters of our church history promise to be exciting!

In the Fall of 2012, this congregation made the decision to leave the PC(USA) and affiliate with the EPC in response to a firm and renewed commitment to the Five Solas of the reformation (Grace alone, Faith alone, Christ alone, Scripture alone, God's Glory alone). We joined the EPC on December 16th, 2012.
